Trojans fall to Cornerstone

Cornerstone Christian celebrated homecoming Friday night in a big way as they dominated the visiting Meadowview Christian Trojans 59-21.

The Chargers took the opening kickoff and marched 58 yards on five plays with Ronezz Stevens taking it in from 19 yards out for the score.  Sterling Reither’s extra point gave Cornerstone the early 7-0 lead.

After Meadowview answered with their own score, the Chargers would get back to business as Adrian Young would score on a 12-yard quarterback scamper.  Reither’s PAT would give the Chargers a 14-7 lead.

Meadowview would answer back on their next possession with a touchdown and then recover a Charger fumble.  The Cornerstone defense would then come up big as they stopped the Trojans on a goal-line stand and then Meadowview would miss a field goal.  From there on out, it was all Cornerstone Christian.

Ronezz Stevens would get his second touchdown of the night on a 22-yard touchdown run and B.J. Smith would add a 17-yard touchdown run as Cornerstone would extend their lead to 27-13 with eight minutes remaining in the half.

The Chargers would add on three more touchdowns in the last three minutes of the half as Auston Wingard would score on an 11-yard touchdown run, Demetrius Conwell would return an interception 64 yards for a touchdown, and Young would find Chase Payne for a 22-yard touchdown reception to give Cornerstone a commanding 47-13 halftime lead.

Meadowview would score a touchdown on their first possession of the second half on a 50-yard run, but the Charger defense would close the door for the rest of the night.  The offense kept churning along as Stevens would add his third touchdown of the night on a 25-yard touchdown run.

The Chargers would close out the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run from Michael Bevard to give Cornerstone a 59-21 homecoming victory.

Cornerstone gained 540 yards of offense on the night with 455 of the yards rushing.  Ronezz Stevens would lead the way with 122 yards and three touchdowns and B.J. Smith would add 104 yards and a touchdown.  Adrian Young would throw for 85 yards and touchdown and Chase Payne would haul in three passes for 57 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Clayton Halbert had 13 tackles.
