Wallace Community College (7-4) dominated Pearl River (0-11) from pillar to post in an 83-45 win on Wednesday.

“It’s a good win, but it wasn’t a big win,” said Wallace coach Antoinette Blevins. “We expected to come in here and beat them today.”

Leading 14-7, the Patriots went on a 13-2 run ignited by a Sivon Pugh layup and 3-pointer to take a 27-9 lead and never looked back.

The Patriots’ pressure defense played a large role in the run as well. Wallace forced 31 Wildcat turnovers on the night.

“They force turnovers out of their press and we struggled with it,” said Pearl River coach Toby Bush.

Wallace extended its lead to 25 on a Kiara Burch layup with 30 seconds left in the first half.

The Patriots picked up where they left off in the second half with a 10-2 run capped by a Venecia Dudley 3-pointer to extend the lead to 55-24.

As the Patriots surged, the Wildcats had difficulty hitting their shots, finishing 27.5 percent for the game on 14-of-51 shooting.

Dudley and Pugh led the Patriots with 21 points apiece.

Shy Whynne and Ashlynn Pittman led the Wildcats with nine points each.
