Coach Marcus Turner has enjoyed his stint at Keith High School.
Turner is The Selma Times-Journal boys basketball player of the year.
“The award is greatly appreciated,” Turner said.
Turner spent several years as an assistant coach at Dallas County High School under Cliff Nix. Turner said he learned a lot of basketball skills under Nix.
“Coach Nix taught me a lot being on the sideline with him because he showed me how to run a structured program and afforded me to have a little more control than most assistants usually have,” Turner said. “I am forever grateful to Coach Nix.”
Nix, an assistant coach on the Hornets’ state title squad in 2014, said Turner’s ascension up the coaching ranks is no surprise to him. “I’m not surprised at all,’ Turner said. “He played the game in high school and has a family background of players., referees. Coaching is in his genes. We made a great coaching combo, He has a great supporting cast that I consider family. We had some good times together and created some lifetime memories. To me, he’s not just a good coach, he’s a great coach along with being a true friend.”
