Morgan fell to Kingwood 45-26 in the consolation game of the Class AAA, Region 2 tournament on Saturday.

The Lions — who entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed — avenged Friday’s loss to Tuscaloosa by shooting with a purpose against Morgan.

April Clark kept Morgan in the game with 12 first half points. But the Lions started double-teaming her, and a 10-1 run capped by two Ragan Spinks jump shots gave the Lions a 24-17 advantage at the half.

“The girls’ egos were hurt so bad from losing,” said Kingwood coach Johna Smith. “They just started putting up shots until they hit them.”

The Lions used a 10-3 run to extend the lead to 34-24 after the third quarter.

In the final period, the Lions’ offense and defense combined to spark an 11-0 run to close out the game.

“They shot the ball really well,” said Morgan coach Robert Andress. “They played two good halves. They were just solid the whole game.”

Lauren Rozoff led the Lions with 26 points. Spinks added 18.

Clark led the Senators with 15 points.

Despite the loss, Morgan’s season is not over. The Senators’ win over Prattville Christian on Thursday ensured a slot in the AISA Elite 8 Tournament.

Morgan enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed in Region 2, and will play at 9 a.m. on Friday.
