The Meadowview Christian Trojans (19-5) baseball team defeated Brooklane 21-2 in the ACA state championship game Friday afternoon at New Life Christian Academy in Millbrook.

“From day one, it was our goal to win state,” MCS head baseball coach Scott Gunter said. “We were in it last year, and made it to the Final Four.”

Last season, the Trojans fell short of the championship game, and finished in third place. The 2018 team secured the first ACA state baseball championship in the school’s 48-year history.

“The team did that,” Gunter said. “It’s good for the boys to know that they did that. It’s a blessing for the boys to do that, and be the first ones at Meadowview Christian to do that. It’s a life memory they’ll never forget.”

Dallas County High School’s 1970 state championship was the last baseball state championship by a high school in Dallas County.

The championship game lasted just three innings, as the Trojans took charge in every facet of the game.

Alex Colquitt started the game on the mound, and Chambers McGilberry finished the game in relief. The two pitchers combined for six strikeouts, and held Brooklane to just two hits.

On offense, the entire lineup contributed to the 21-run effort.

Tournament MVP Jeremy Lee hit his fourth home run of the weekend, and went 3 for 4 in the championship game with two runs scored.

“He had the best two games that I’ve seen him have this year,” Gunter said. “He was just on. He knows what it takes to win, and he really stepped up.”

Mason Kendrick and Colquitt each picked up two hits in the game as well.

“We had like 14 total hits, and eight players had at least one hit,” Gunter said. “That’s what it takes to win. Our pitching was good, and we just executed when we had the chance.”

After the final out, the boys celebrated with a dog pile in the middle of the field.

“You could tell they had their game faces on today. They really wanted it,” Gunter said. “We had some leaders on the team that steeped up and made sure everybody was ready to go, and they were. It was really exciting to see them so excited about winning.”
