The Meadowview Christian girls’ volleyball team has built a quite a comfortable home in its gym. Four matches down and the players have barely broken a sweat.

The Trojans (4-0) defeated Victory Baptist Millbrook (0-2) 25-11, 25-21, 25-17 Tuesday. This marks the second straight day Meadowview Christian has won a match in three sets.

The first set got off to a rocky start for the Trojans. Down 4-6, Tayler Roberts stepped up to serve. Roberts gave Meadowview a 13-6 lead with nine straight points and the Trojans wouldn’t look back the rest of the match.

Burton was impressed with the play of Roberts throughout Tuesday’s match.

“She made some plays that I normally wouldn’t expect from Tayler,” Burton said.

Burton wasn’t impressed, however, with the effort in the second half. The set was tied 2-2 early and Christina Dabit won three straight points off her serve to give the Trojans a 5-2 lead. A few points later, however, Meadowview trailed 6-7.

Roberts put the Trojans back on top with two straight serves to give Meadowview an 8-7 lead. The Eagles kept the set close the entire way through. Maggie Tipton gave Meadowview just enough of a cushion—with four straight points to take a 19-14 lead—for Meadowview to pull away and win the set.

Mallory Freine ended the third and final set seemingly before it began. Freine came into the match with a career record of eight straight serves.

“Mallory Freine’s serving was on tonight,” Burton said. “I think she actually broke a personal best. That’s what she was going for.”

The ninth serve of the set was Freine’s and it was an ace. She and her teammates celebrated her personal victory as the opponents took a timeout.

Overall, the Trojans got off to a 10-0 start and the lead was enough to hold off the Eagles. Although Meadowview has yet to lose a set, Burton still sees room for improvement.

“The first and the third set looked pretty good,” Burton said. “The second one was a little rocky. I think we kind of get lost in what we’re supposed to be doing. “

The junior varsity Trojans pulled out their match out in three sets as well, though it was in more dramatic fashion. After dropping the first set 17-25, Meadowview rallied to win the last two sets 26-24, 15-11.
