The Meadowview Christian Trojans are preparing for a tough contest, as they will welcome a defending state champion to Selma on Friday.

The Trojans (2-2, 1-0 AISA Class 1A Region 2) will host the Jackson Academy Eagles (2-2, 1-1 AISA Class 1A Region 2) Friday at 7 p.m. in a region showdown.

Trojans head football coach Lebo Jones said his team will face a fast, tough opponent in the defending Alabama Independent School Association Class 1A state champion Eagles.

“They run the spread offense just like they did last year,” Jones said. “They’ve got a lot of speed, and they’re the defending state champions, so they’ve got a good ball club.”

Jones said the Trojans have been more focused in practice this week, coming off their second straight win of the season.

“Practice has been going pretty well,” Jones said. “We had a real good practice today. The guys’ attitudes are a lot better — I think they’re buying into the whole winning thing. They’re enjoying winning and they come out ready to practice now. They look like they’re in real high spirits and in a good mood when they’re at practice.”

Jones added the Trojans will have to play mistake-free football and establish their rushing attack in order to have a shot at defeating the Eagles.

“We’ve just got to execute, don’t turn the ball over,” Jones said. “We’ve got to execute our offense and quit missing tackles on defense. We’ve got to play a good game this week to win. It’s a tough opponent and we’ve got to do what we do and do it right.”
