Morgan Academy pitchers Jeremy Lee and Matthew Davis will be Sun Belt Conference rivals next year.
Lee signed with South Alabama, while Davis is headed to Arkansas-Little Rock (UALR).
The Senators pitchers signed scholarships Wednesday on the final day of the NCAA Fall Signing Period.
Joey Lee and Lisa Easterling, Lee’s parents and Richard and Phyllis Davis, Davis’ parents, watched their children sign.
Lee, The Selma Times-Journal’s football player of the year in 2018, said he’s lookng forward to playing with the Jaguars. Lee will pitch and play infield.
“It’s a lot of weight off my shoulders,” Lee said. “Now I can get back to working out and getting ready to play there next year.”
Davis said he’s excited to play for UALR next year despite the long distance from Selma.
“It’s awesome to sign a Division I scholarship,” Davis said. “I’m looking forward to playing at Arkansas-Little Rock. I’ve been working for this.”
Senators coach Stephen Clements praised both Lee and Davis, who have met NCAA Freshmen eligibility requirements.
“They’re both great players but even better young men,” Clements said. “ I’m super proud of their work effort and all of the relentless hours they have put in to achieve their dreams. I am truly blessed to have these two young men in my life and I hope I have taught them half as much as they have taught me.”
