Holt Utsey ran for 74 yards and scored two touchdowns as Morgan Academy thumped Lee Scott 40-2 on Friday night.
Utsey’s touchdown runs were from 4 and 42 yards out, as Morgan Academy improves to 3-1.
Ed Williams also scored on a 29-yard touchdown run for Morgan Academy, who led 14-0 after one quarter and 34-0 at halftime.
Quarterback Jeremy Lee completed 7 of 11 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. He also had a 1-yard touchdown run. Lee threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Hardin Utsey, who had three catches for 145 yards.
“Jeremy did a great job executing our offense tonight,” Senators coach Josh Thacker said. “We had to spread it out to get Lee Scott to loosen up on defense. The passing game is always there for us. We feel that we have one of the better receiving groups around. We’re 3-1, but we’re not where we want to be. We’ve got to keep getting better.”
Morgan Academy hosts Glenwood next Friday.
Opelika 66, Selma 6
Nicholas Parnell’s 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter was the only points for Selma (2-1, 0-1) in its Region opener.
Selma High assistant head coach Deandre Wilson said the lopsided defeat provided a learning moment for the Saints.
“I was disappointed in our performance,” Wilson said. “But it was an eye-opener for our team. We have to put this loss behind us. We have come back and get ready to go to work Monday.”
The Saints travel to Benjamin Russell next Friday.
Holy Spirit 62, Ellwood 6
Holy Spirit (3-0, 2-0) jumped out a 22-0 first quarter lead. The margin grew to 62-6 halftime.
Pickens Academy 58, Meadowview 7
“We had a missed assignment and then we had another bad thing happen, and then we didn’t execute again. It was a snowball effect,” Meadowview head coach Bob Taylor said.
