The Meadowview Christian Trojans baseball team defeated Tabernacle 9-0 in the first round of the ACAA state tournament Friday afternoon at New Life Christian Academy in Millbrook.

“It was a great win for us,” MCS head baseball coach Scott Gunter said. “We had outstanding pitching. We probably had one of our best games of the year.”

MCS starting pitcher Jeremy Lee threw four shutout innings. Tabernacle had 13 at-bats against Lee, and he struck out their hitters 11 times.

Gunter brought in Garrett Brech to close out the final three innings. He picked up three strike outs himself and preserved the shutout.

Combined, Lee and Brech only allowed one hit and a walk in their combined shutout.

At the plate, Lee produced most of the offense as well going 3 for 3 with three home runs. Mason Kendrick went 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored. Alex Colquitt, Chambers McGilberry, Chemar McGuire and Zach Duke also crossed the plate for the Trojans in game one.

The win advances Meadowview Christian to the championship game against Brooklane at noon Friday.

Brooklane, which was the Region A top seed, defeated Tuscaloosa in its Thursday matchup to advance to the finals.

The Trojans defeated Brooklane earlier this season, but they are still a strong team to face. They put up at least 10 runs and hit the ball well against Tuscaloosa, according to Gunter.

“We’ve got to play good defense, keep hitting the baseball, get good solid pitching and we should be OK,” he said.
