Meadowview Christian undefeated in ACAA games

The Meadowview Christian School Trojans almost lost the shut-out Monday afternoon in the top of the fifth inning against New Life Christian Academy, but a diving stop by shortstop Jeremy Lee robbed NLCA of its best chance at scoring and held the lead runner at third base.

During the next and final at bat, Meadowview catcher Mason Perkins caught the third base runner in a pickle to get the last out and secure the 11-0 win for the Trojans.

Meadowview improved to 15-4, and the win against New Life made them undefeated against region opponents in the Alabama Christian Athletic Association (ACAA).

“We got through the region undefeated and we’re going straight to the Final Four, but we have to play better baseball than we did today,” Meadowview head coach Scott Gunter said. “We made a lot of mental mistakes today. It didn’t really hurt us, but if it had been a close game it could have hurt us.”

The Trojans already clinched their position in the state playoffs, which don’t get started until May, but they still have four games remaining in the regular season.

The Trojans had the advantage on the mound against New Life behind four innings of work from Lee and another from Christian Jones.

Lee struck out eleven hitters and allowed only two hits before head coach Scott Gunter handed the ball to Jones.

On the offensive end, the Trojans turned seven hits into 11 runs. They were able to capitalize on walks, passed balls and fielding errors to pad their lead. The Trojans scored five unearned runs on passed balls and wild pitches.

Jack Barnes and Alex Colquitt hit the only two extra-base hits that drove in runs. Barnes brought in two runs with a double to centerfield, and Colquitt picked up an RBI with a triple that went over the right fielder’s extended glove.

“We just have to have less mental mistakes and keep hustling,” Gunter said. “Overall, it was a good team effort and a win.”
