Trojans game vs. Gunn cancelled

Meadowview Christian was scheduled to play Gunn Christian Thursday night, but the game was cancelled because Gunn ran into transportation problems.

Gunn was on its way to the game when the school’s bus broke down, said Meadowview Christian boys basketball coach John Robert Morton.

“The bus wasn’t working and they got out and tried to come anyway and it broke down,” Morton said.

The teams were scheduled to play junior varsity and boys’ varsity games Thursday. Gunn Christian does not have a girls’ varsity team.

Morton said he was looking forward to a rematch after the teams played a close game earlier this season. Gunn Christian defeated Meadowview Christian 80-60 on Dec. 4.

Morton is unsure whether or not the game will be rescheduled, but he’s hopeful it will be.

“I hope that we do, but he’s going to call me tomorrow,” Morton said.

After the game was cancelled, the Trojans made the best of an unfortunate situation. Instead of packing up and heading home players scrimmaged parents, former Trojans and others who didn’t mind taking the court to give the team a little extra practice.

“It’s just a lot of fun to have guys come out and play,” Morton said. “It’s just like a family. Everybody picks up and everybody plays real honest basketball. We all try our best to make the team better.”

The Trojans (9-6) will take the court again next week against Cahawba Christian and Brooklane.

“We’re gearing up for next week,” Morton said. “We play two games next week and we want to make sure we’ve got everything going in the right direction for that.”
