Dallas County wins first volleyball area title

Dallas County High School won its first regular season area championship on Oct. 1 with a 25-19, 25-12, 25-15 win over Demopolis. The Hornets also won the class 5A, area 6 championship later in October.

 

Morgan Academy completes another rally

The Morgan Academy football team rallied from a double digit deficit for the second straight week to stun Autauga Academy on Oct. 2. Morgan trailed 34-20 in the second half but scored the game’s last 22 points. The Senators had also rallied from a 29-14 deficit to defeat Tuscaloosa the week before.

 

Lee named All-Conference USA Preseason

William Lee was named to the All-Conference USA Preseason Team by the coaches in early October. Lee, a Dallas County High School graduate, is averaging 7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game.

 

Morgan Academy Pee Wee team finishes perfect season

Morgan Academy’s Pee Wee football team put new meaning into the phrase “perfect” season when it went 7-0 this season and did not give up a single point all year. The Senators outscored their opponents 188-0.

 

UAB’s Clark speaks at QB Club

UAB head football coach Bill Clark spoke to the Selma Quarterback Club on Oct. 27. He talked about rebuilding the program, which was shut down in December 2014, only to be reinstated last year.

 

Meadowview falls to Victory in CFA semifinal

After reaching the state semifinals in the Christian Football Association’s 6-man league, Meadowview Christian couldn’t keep pace with Victory Christian in a 32-16 loss.

“We gave it all we had tonight,” said Meadowview Christian head coach Lebo Jones. “They were better, that’s all it was. We got outplayed and outcoached.”

 

Dallas Co. makes playoffs for first time since ‘04

Dallas County’s football team qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2004, but had no answer for Greenville in a 42-15 loss.

“We’re just not at the level yet of the top teams in the state,” said Dallas County head coach Marty Smith. “We’ve got to get there and that’s just consistency, discipline on and off the field and the weight room.”

 

Keith falls to Georgiana in playoffs

After making the playoffs, Keith bowed out of the 1A playoffs after a 34-0 loss to No. 3 ranked Georgiana.

 

Keith girls top first ASWA basketball rankings

Not surprisingly, the Keith girls were ranked No. 1 in the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s first basketball poll of the year on Dec. 8.

The Bears have won 17 straight games since losing their opening game at Selma High School.
