Score Roundup: Collins’ shot leads Keith past Hatch

ORRVILLE — Morris Collins hit a turnaround jumper in the final second Tuesday night as Keith pulled out a narrow 62-61 over R.C. Hatch.

Collins had six points in the game, but none bigger than his final shot of the night, which dropped to keep the Bears (2-0) unbeaten through two games.

John Pettway backed up his 36-point performance against Selma with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Dalven Johnson, Justyn Pettway and Dontavius Thomas each scored nine points for the Bears.

Keith will host Wilcox Central Friday night.

 

Keith 40, 

R.C. Hatch 29 (Girls)

Harriet Winchester scored 23 points and brought down six rebounds as Keith upended R.C. Hatch 40-29.

The win marked the first victory of the year for the defending 1A state champions, who lost their opener to Selma on Friday.

Shatavia Moore scored eight points and seven rebounds for Keith (1-1).

Keith will host Wilcox Central Friday night.

 

Wilcox Academy 69, 

Meadowview 48 (Boys)

Despite a great night on the offensive end from Justin McGuire, Meadowview was unable to keep up with Wilcox Academy Tuesday night in a 49-48 loss.

McGuire scored 21 points, Jeremy Lee had 11 and Sam Dabit poured in nine for the Trojans (1-3) in the loss.

Meadowview will take part in its annual alumni game Friday before playing at Cahawba Christian on Dec. 1.

 

Wilcox Academy 42, Meadowview 16 (Girls)

Meadowview Christian’s undefeated start came to an end Tuesday night in a 42-16 loss to Wilcox Academy.

Christina Dabit scored nine points and Mallory Freine added five in the loss for the Trojans.

“We didn’t rebound well tonight and we couldn’t really make any free throws,” said Meadowview coach Scott Gunter.

Meadowview will play its alumni game before playing at Cahawba Christian Dec. 1.
