Meadowview Christian (3-0) kept its hot start going Monday night with a 46-33 victory over Tabernacle Christian.

Tayler Roberts scored 14 points and Christina Dabit added 12 as the Trojans held on for a hard fought victory.

“They’re a tough team and they’ve got a lot of good shooters and a good inside game,” said Meadowview coach Scott Gunter. “It was a good challenge for us. We needed that.”

Meadowview led 16-9 at the end of the first quarter, but both teams struggled from the field in the second period.

Each team scored only four points in the second quarter, but the Trojans got hot in the third quarter.

Hannah Thornton knocked down her second 3-pointer in the third quarter to extend the lead to 30-23 and Roberts tacked on a layup to put the Trojans up 32-23 going into the fourth.

Thornton scored 12 points in the game.

Meadowview will play at Wilcox Academy Tuesday night.

The first three quarters of Monday’s game between Meadowview Christian and Tabernacle Christian left a lot to be desired offensively.  In the fourth quarter, the Torches started making shots and Meadowview couldn’t keep pace.

Tabernacle scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Trojans (1-2) 55-38 Monday night in Meadowview’s home opener.

“That’s low energy, low effort, poor execution all the way around,” said Meadowview Christian head coach John Robert Morton. “I didn’t find anything I liked about this basketball game. I was disappointed from the very beginning.”

Morton was disappointed that his team allowed Tabernacle to set the pace and that showed in the fourth quarter.

After trailing most of the game, Sam Dabit hit a free throw to tie the game at 26-26 with only seconds left in the third quarter. Tabernacle took the lead back quickly as Cobie Howard got behind the Trojans’ defense for an easy layup to make it 28-26 Torches after three quarters.

Josh White, who was held in check for the first three quarters, hit a 3-pointer to begin the fourth quarter for Tabernacle. He finished the night with 22 points, with 12 of those coming in the final quarter.

A 3-pointer by Max Owen gave Tabernacle a 39-28 lead early in the fourth and the lead kept growing from there.

“This is not our basketball,” Morton said. “They ran us up and down the floor. We didn’t run them up and down the floor.”

Justin McGuire led Meadowview in scoring with 15 points, and JeVar McGuire added 12 more.
