CCA loses late lead, falls to Edward Waters

Edward Waters College threw two fourth quarter touchdown passes Saturday as the Blue Devils rallied to stun Concordia College Alabama 26-24.

The Hornets seemingly had the game in control, leading 17-9 at halftime and 24-12 to start the third quarter, but it was déjà vu for Concordia. After blowing second half leads earlier this season against Lane and Stillman College, the Hornets saw another late lead slip away when Blue Devils quarterback Taron Williams threw a game winning touchdown pass to Petey Jones with around two minutes to play.

“The last seven minutes of the game is really when things got out of hand,” said Concordia head coach Stanley Conner. “We played well.”

After falling behind, the Hornets drove down the field, but missed a field goal in the final minute that would’ve won the game.  Concordia hosts Clark-Atlanta Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
