Ellwood Christian’s junior varsity football team succeeded in avoiding its fifth loss of the season, but the Eagles didn’t win either.
Ellwood (0-4-1) tied with Tipton 8-8 at Southside High School Tuesday.
Jacobie Smiley had the lone touchdown for Ellwood, scoring on a 35-yard touchdown and converting the two-point conversion.
Ellwood head coach Derrick Edwards said his defense played “lights out” in the second half in order to give the Eagles an opportunity to earn their first victory of the season.
“We had a good chance to win right there at the end, but we turned the ball over on downs,” Edwards said.
Ellwood and Tipton play each other again at Southside this upcoming Tuesday.
