Already three matches into the season, the Meadowview Christian Trojans still haven’t lost a set. On Monday, they didn’t even come close.

Meadowview (3-0) rolled past Lighthouse Christian Academy 25-4, 25-0, 25-9 Monday. The Trojans didn’t face a difficult test against the Pirates, who are playing their first year of volleyball. However, Meadowview head coach Tim Burton saw a much more controlled and focused Trojans team than in past matches.

“They looked better than they did the other day,” Burton said.

It was clear right from the first set that Meadowview had outmatched its opponent. Emily Skelton started off the Trojans’ hot serving night with nine straight points off her serve.

Christina Dabit was next up to serve and followed Skelton with six straight points of her own to take a 16-2 lead in the first set. Dabit, the team captain, didn’t play in Meadowview’s last game, but her play certainly made a difference against Lighthouse Christian.

“She’s got a good serve. She can set, she can hit. She can do it all,” Burton said.

Maggie Tipton closed out the first set with eight straight points off her serve. As quickly as the first set came and went, the second set was even more of a breeze for the Trojans, thanks to Nikita Miller.

Miller walked to the baseline to begin the second set serving at 0-0. When Miller left the baseline, the score was 25-0 and she was being congratulated by teammates for accomplishing a difficult feat.

“I know she can serve, but 25 in a row, that’s rare, “Burton said. “It’s rare to get that many in.”

Every Meadowview player got the chance to play the third set. While a few missed serves in the final set blemished an otherwise perfect day from the Trojans, the players were serving much more consistently than they did in their last time out. Burton was happy with his team’s serving, especially through the first two sets. He believes a team that can make serves consistently is a team that will be successful.

Burton was also satisfied with the level of control his team played with on Monday.

“It’s always going to be controlling and serving,” Burton said. “If you can do those two things, if you can control the ball, you can play volleyball.”

Meadowview volleyball has a packed schedule this week. The Trojans host Millbrook on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and then host Columbus on Thursday at 4 p.m.
