Roundup: Morgan starts state tournament Friday

Morgan Academy will begin its pursuit of an Alabama Independent School Association softball class AAA championship Friday at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
The Senators will face Bessemer Academy at 10 a.m. to begin their pursuit of a state championship. With a win, Morgan won’t play again until Friday at 4 p.m., but if the Senators lose they’ll play at 2 p.m. in an elimination game.
Morgan Academy and Bessemer have not played this season.
Other first round games include Glenwood-Monroe, Autauga-Lee-Scott, and Tuscaloosa-Pike Liberal Arts. The eight-team tournament will run all day Friday and will be completed Saturday.
Eagles, Panthers seasons come to an end
Ellwood Christian and Southside saw their softball seasons come to a close Wednesday in separate Alabama High School Athletic Association area tournaments.
The Eagles fell to Georgiana 15-0 in two separate game to be eliminated from the class 1A, area 3 tournament. Southside lost to Monroe County and Clarke County in the class 4A, area 3 tournament.
