The Auburn University Montgomery softball team is ranked as the unanimous No. 1 team in the country in the first 2015 NAIA preseason coaches top 25 poll.
The Warhawks finished 2014 with a 44-7 record and won the school’s first national championship. Dallas County alumna Cassie Daniels headlines the returnees on the team.
Daniels pitched the entire 2014 season with an avulsion fraction of the ulna, which often put her in a lot of pain.
She entered last year not knowing how much she would be able to pitch, but ended the year by getting the final out of the championship game against William Carey and was named World Series MVP.
She’s one of seven National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region selections that are back.
AUM will begin its title defense Feb. 20 when it hosts the AUM/Faulkner Invitiational.
William Carey (Miss.), last season’s runner-up, is ranked No. 2. Reinhardt (Ga.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Oklahoma City round out the top five.
