Score Roundup: Selma boys, girls split with Hillcrest

Hillcrest 56, Selma 52 (Boys)

Selma (9-2) fell to No. 4 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa in a tightly contested area game Tuesday night.

Dexter Hatcher led the way for the Saints with 16 points and Michael Griffin added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Greg Kelly also added nine points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Saints had a chance to tie in the closing seconds, but were unable to get a shot off. Hillcrest then made two free throws to seal the win and temporarily seize control in the class 6A, area 6 race.

The Saints will host rival Southside Friday.

 

Ellwood Christian 59, Sweet Water 25 (Boys)

Ellwood Christian’s Rayford Mitchell outscored Sweet Water by himself Monday, as the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 59-25.

Mitchell hit four three-pointers, scored 36 points total, and added eight steals in a fantastic performance.

Jalen Furlow also added 21 points and five steals for the Eagles (3-5).

 

A.L. Johnson 69, Ellwood Christian 67 (Boys)

Jalen Furlow scored 27 points but it wasn’t enough as Ellwood Christian fell to A.L. Johnson Tuesday.

The Eagles (3-6) led most of the game but saw their lead slip away late. Rayford Mitchell scored 11 points in the loss.

Ellwood will play at Wilcox Central next Friday, Dec. 26.

 

Selma 45, Hillcrest 43 (Girls)

Selma clawed its way to a two-point win in overtime over Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa Tuesday night.

The Lady Saints limited possession in the extra session and it paid off, as they won 45-43 despite scoring only four points in overtime. Areyana Williams led Selma with 17 points and Jamya Smith scored 11. Jacquetta Dailey also had 10 for the Lady Saints.

Selma is 3-0 in area play.

 

Southside 71, Clarke County 68 (2OT) (boys)

Southside started area play with a dramatic win Tuesday, beating Clarke County 71-68 in double overtime.

The Panthers were led by Kentavius Page with 16 points. Scott Cole added 13 points, Isaiah Coleman scored 11 and added 12 rebounds.

The victory puts Southside (3-7) 1-0 in class 4A, area 3 play.

 

Morgan Academy 59, Patrician 52 (Boys)

Morgan Academy jumped on Patrician early and held on for a 59-52 victory Saturday in the Tuscaloosa Academy tournament.

Tyler Bush led the way for the Senators with 13 points and Jackson Henderson added 10. John Ross Bone scored 12 points Saturday and was named to the all-tournament team for his performances over the weekend. Patrician’s Gray Scott led all scorers with 16 points.
