Roundup: Keith boys, girls defeat Akron; Meadowview splits with Marion

Marion Academy 59, Meadowview Christian 55 (boys)

Javier McGuire scored 17 points to pace Meadowview Christian Thursday, but the Trojans came up short in a 59-55 loss to Marion Academy.

Alan Stockman scored 12 points and Clayton Thorton 11 in the defeat. The Trojans (5-3) will try to break a two game losing streak Friday when they host Brooklane Baptist.

Meadowview Christian 39, Marion Academy 4 (girls)

Taylor Roberts scored 12 points to lead Meadowview Christian to a 39-4 victory over Marion Academy Thursday.

Nikita Miller scored eight points and Christina Dabit added six more in the Trojans’ victory. Meadowview (6-2) will host Brooklane Baptist Friday.

 

Keith 77, Akron 47 (boys)

Keith used a big third quarter to run away from Akron in a 77-47 victory Thursday.

John Pettway led the way with 27 points and Jaequan Simmons added 12 points and six rebounds. Jimmy Powell also had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Bears.

No. 3 ranked Keith (6-4) led 38-28 at halftime but outscored the Rams 19-10 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead.

The Bears will play at Southside Friday.

 

Keith 60, Akron 44 (girls)

In a battle of top-10 1A teams, No. 6 Keith showed its toughness in a 60-44 win Thursday over No. 8 Akron.

Harriet Winchester led the Lady Bears with 18 points, Shatavia Moore added 15 and Zykia Pettway scored 11. Dasheena Thomas also scored eight for the Lady Bears.

Keith (6-3) will take on Southside Friday. Akron fell to 4-2 on the season with the loss.
