Meadowview Christian opened its volleyball season last weekend at the Tiger Jam Tournament in Oxford and the Lady Trojans won the tournament, although it wasn’t the tournament they hoped to win.
Meadowview won the 8-team consolation tournament by winning three matches Saturday. The field for Saturday’s winner’s bracket and consolation bracket were set by pool play matches Friday, where the top eight team advanced to a winner’s bracket and the bottom eight moved into the consolation bracket.
Meadowview won only one of four matches Friday, putting the Lady Trojans in the consolation tournament.
“They definitely improved after Friday,” Lady Trojans head coach Tim Burton said of his team. “We came back Saturday and we looked pretty good.”
The Trojans defeated Chilton Christian Academy in two sets to win the consolation tournament. Meadowview Christian will play Chilton Christian again Thursday when the Lady Trojans play their first home game at 4 p.m.
“I was missing a few players but the ones I did have played well,” Burton said. “I think they felt real good about it when they left on Saturday.”
Meadowview’s games in Oxford were the first the Trojans have played in the Alabama Christian Education Association.
