Churches plan block party

“Being there on time is important because we’re going to break them into groups and we’ll move them around to different areas, from like the giant slide at one time to now’s the time to eat cotton candy at one time,” Frazier said. “It’s not going to really be like a fair type of deal. It’ll be more like a festival. You get here at two o’clock and you go through these rotations where the students will be doing crafts with them, games, Bible stories and such.”
Frazier said the block party will be held rain or shine, and that the activities can be moved inside the armory building in the event of inclement weather.
Smith said one reason for the event is to encourage the youth that will be overseeing the block party to help out in the community.
“There were a lot of reasons, but the main reason was we felt led to do something in this community and show our youth that you can make a difference in the community,” Smith said. “You don’t have to go somewhere to experience Jesus. Jesus is here in Selma, and you can not only experience him, but you can also make a difference reaching out into the community. We hope that’s something that will be near and dear to their hearts and this weekend won’t be the only time they’ll reach out to the community, and they’ll be inspired to do so themselves in the future.”
