SELMA — Meadowview Christian’s 38-13 loss to Autauga Academy is just another learning experience for the 0-5 Trojans.

“Winning is important, we love to win, but right now we just want to see improvement, and we want them to keep working hard,” said Meadowview coach John Glasscock. “I feel good about where we are. We’re getting better. Our team is improving. They’re working hard and they’re giving us their best effort and I’m real pleased with them.”

The team struggled from the start as starting running back Brandon Smith did not dress out Friday due to an injury from last week’s game against East Montgomery Christian Academy. During the game, Tyler Perry strained his knee and Gregg Piper bruised his shoulder for the second week.

“We had a lot of injuries going in to this ballgame because we played such a hard game last week against EMCA and had a chance to win it,” Glasscock said. “We got a few people bummed up and that hurt us a lot tonight. We had to put some young kids in some positions and that hurt us tonight, and we got a few bummed up tonight, but I think overall we should have them all back by next week.”

Senior Cody Griffin remains positive as the team moves to the second half of the season.

“We still feel like we have a lot to play for this year and can salvage the rest of the season,” Griffin said. “We’re not really going to forget about this game, but we’re going to put it aside and work on the positives and come out here Monday and work on the stuff we need to work on.”

Key players for Friday’s game were Tyler Perry with six tackles, Joey Rabon with 60 yards rushing, Bailey Underwood with 39 yards rushing and Gregg Piper with 62 yards receiving for two touchdown passes. Dylan Lawrence threw both touchdown passes to Piper, kicked the extra point and recovered a fumble for 25 yards.

“They came out and they played good,” said Autauga Academy senior Garrett Petrunic. “I give all my respect to Meadowview.”
