DOTHAN — Junior running back A.J. Ward rushed for 224 yards and all three touchdowns Saturday to lead Concordia College to its fourth straight victory with a 20-12 win over Edward Waters College in the Wiregrass Football Classic.

Junior running back A.J. Ward rushed 10 times for 101 yards as the Hornets (5-3) rolled up 493 yards in total offense.

“I’m really proud of our guys,” Concordia coach Shepherd Skanes said. “We can do no worse than .500 football this year.”

The Hornets have a bye week before ending the season with games at Miles College (Oct. 30) and Stillman (Nov. 14).

Skanes said he was disappointed with the lack of offensive punch inside the 20-yard line.

“We had a chance to make the game easy,” he said. “We were in the red zone six times and only scored three times. We need to do better than that.”

Although Edward Waters is winless, Skanes said the Tigers have plenty of talent.

“They can beat anybody,” he said. “They have been in every game they play.”

Senior linebacker Corey Rue led the Hornets on defense with eight tackles and one interception. Junior linebacker Alphonso Tucker added five tackles and two sacks.
