Meadowview Christian’s playoff hopes ended Friday night in a 48-8 loss to Brooklane Baptist.

The Trojans (2-5) entered with renewed hope of reaching the postseason after a win last week and two more games at home to end the year, but Brooklane put Friday’s game out of reach early.  Trevor Lambert scored three touchdowns and Cory Chambers added two more as Brooklane rolled over the Trojans.

“I think the second half they wore us down,” said Meadowview coach Lebo Jones. “They have a lot of good athletes, a lot of speed. We couldn’t catch them.”

The teams traded punts on their first possessions, but Brooklane wouldn’t punt the rest of the way.

The Eagles scored on a three-play drive, highlighted by a 37-yard run by Maasiah Horton to get to the Meadowview 2-yard line. Lambert rushed it in from there and a one-point conversion made the score 7-0.

The Trojans fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Brooklane recovered at the Meadowview 22-yard line.

Lambert scored on the next play, running 22 yards on a reverse around left end. Lambert added the extra point, which counts two points in 6-man football, and made the score 15-0.

Meadowview found some life on its next possession.

Zack Duke connected with Austin Little on a 34-yard pass on a reverse pass play. Little was wide open, but the ball was a little underthrown and Brooklane caught him at the 15-yard line.

The Trojans advanced the ball to the 4-yard line on a Jeremy Lee run, but couldn’t get any closer. Duke was tackled for an 8-yard loss on fourth down and the Trojans turned the ball back over to the Eagles.

Two plays later, Brooklane’s Dalton Hill threw an 88-yard touchdown pass to Lambert, who got behind the Meadowview defense and outran everyone to the end zone. Another extra point made the score 23-0.

The Trojans drove back down the field on one of their best drives of the night. Duke totaled 37 yards on back-to-back runs and moved Meadowview to the Brooklane 9-yard line. The Trojans were able to score from there, as Lee threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to John Ryan Symanski.

Lee’s extra point made the score 23-8.

After holding Brooklane on downs, Meadowview marched the ball to the Brooklane 14-yard line with under two minutes to play in the half. The Trojans dropped two passes inside the red zone, but Brooklane was called for a pass interference call on fourth down.

Pass interference doesn’t award the offense an automatic first down in high school football, but it did give the Trojans another play. Lee ran for five yards on fourth down, but he was still short of the goal line by several yards.

“In the first half, I think we got inside the 10 four times and only scored once,” Jones said.

With the ball back, Brooklane put the game away on the very next play. Chambers ran 97 yards down the sideline for a game clinching score, putting Brooklane up 29-8. A one-point conversion made the score 30-8.

Horton and Lambert added scores in the second half for Brooklane.

Meadowview will play Marion next week in their final game of the season. Jones said that game will give the Trojans a chance to build some momentum for next year.

This year’s team doesn’t have any seniors and has lost several key players to injuries. Mason Kendrick is out for the year with a shoulder injury and Duke left Friday’s game with a concussion, Jones said.

“We need to win the next game. It’s the last game of the year against our rivals. Marion is right down the road. We need to end the season on a good note and get ready for next year because we’ve got a really young team,” Jones said.
