Basketball roundup: Dallas County edges out Demopolis

Henry Baker made a buzzer beating layup in overtime to lead Dallas County past Demopolis 78-77 Thursday night in a class 5A, area 6 game.

Dallas County trailed by 13 with 1:05 left in the fourth quarter but the Hornets rallied to tie the game. Down four in the final seconds, Timothy Baker made a 3-pointer and was fouled with 1.0 seconds left. Timothy’s free throw tied the game and set it overtime.

Henry scored 27 points to lead three Dallas County players in double figures. Josh Benford had 17 points and Andre Hall scored 16 for the Hornets.

Dallas County will play at Keith on Monday.

 

Ellwood 61, Calhoun 41 (boys)

The Ellwood Christian Eagles (7-10) defeated the Calhoun Tigers Thursday 61-41. Derrick Griffin led Ellwood with 20 points and added seven assists and two steals.

Justin Buford scored 17 points and posted 15 rebounds. Rayford Mitchell poured in 18 points and added six steals.

Ellwood hosts Isabella Saturday. The junior varsity game tips off at 5 p.m. and varsity games follow.
