Keith, Bibb County to meet in top 5 showdown

ORRVILLE — Bibb County will travel to Keith Thursday night for a showdown of top-five ranked boys basketball teams.

The Bears (19-5) were ranked No. 3 in class 1A in last week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association basketball poll, while Bibb County was ranked No. 3 in class 4A.

“It’s probably one of the most talented teams we’ve played all season,” said Keith head coach Tommy Tisdale. “No disrespect to anybody else that we’ve played but they’ve got size, they’ve got ball handling. When they come through the gym they look like a college basketball team.”

Bibb County won the first meeting between the teams 55-41 on Jan. 12. Tisdale said he’s interested in seeing how his team adjusts for the second meeting of the year.

Tisdale said he’s not looking at the game as a playoff tune-up, but the postseason isn’t far away.

After Thursday the Bears only have three more regular season games.

Tisdale said he hopes his team shows how much it’s grown since the first meeting, when Bibb County outrebounded Keith and made the Bears uncomfortable with their size.

“Whether we win or lose, we can grow if we got better in those aspects,” Tisdale said. “That’s what we are using this game for — to get better — and if we get better hopefully the wins and losses will take care of themselves.”

The top-ranked Keith girls (20-2) will also be in action.
