Roundup: Selma boys hang on, defeat R.C. Hatch

Loveless Craig led the Selma Saints with 13 points and six rebounds as Selma defeated R.C. Hatch 56-48 at home Friday to move to 1-1 on the season. 

“I think it will carry us a long way,” said Selma head coach Woodie Jackson.

Kentravious White added 10 points and six rebounds, Quentavious Davis scored nine points and added five assists and Kiwansis Jones tallied eight points and eight rebounds.

Marshall Woods also added eight points off the bench.

The Saints led by 14 in the first half, and took a 21-15 lead into halftime.

By the end of the third quarter, Selma was up 40-30.

The Saints travel to Francis Marion Saturday at 4 p.m.

 

Selma 51, 

R.C. Hatch 41 (Girls)

Selma (2-0) roared back for a 53-41 win over R.C. Hatch Friday night.

The Saints trailed 20-13 at halftime but went on a 28-8 run in the third quarter to take control of the game. Areyana Williams scored 15 points to lead the way for the Saints.

“We came out of the blocks slow and stunk the place up in the first half,” said Selma head coach Anthony Harris. “We came back and had a pretty good press and stole a couple of baskets.”

Selma struggled most of the night. The Saints had 20 turnovers and went 10-for-30 from the free throw line. Jacquetta Dailey scored 13 points for the Saints and Jamya Smith added 11.

Ka’Lasha Patterson led R.C. Hatch with 12 points and Miranda Jones had 11 more for the Bobcats.

The Saints will play at Francis Marion Saturday.

 

Ellwood Christian 54, 

Calhoun 39 (Boys)

Tyre Webster led Ellwood Christian with 13 points and to the Eagles’ first win of the season playing their first game on their brand new floor.

The Ellwood Christian Eagles (1-2) defeated the Calhoun Tigers 54-39 Friday at home. Freshman Derrick Griffin scored 12 points, seven assists and five steals. Devantae Sanders added six points and seven rebounds.

“It was epic in there tonight,” said Ellwood head coach Darrell Walker. “We had a big crowd. The music was going. It was a great atmosphere for basketball and I’m glad that we came out on top for our first [home] game.”

Ellwood held Calhoun to two points in the first quarter. The Eagles took a 22-11 lead into halftime. Ellwood’s next game is at the Selma  High tournament Wednesday.
