Meadowview Christian is heading back to the state volleyball tournament for a second consecutive season and this time the Trojans look poised to return with a championship trophy.

With a spot in the eight-team state tournament on the line, Meadowview defeated Cahawba Christian 25-5, 25-12, 25-7 Tuesday afternoon to keep its season and a shot at redemption alive.

Last season, the Trojans finished third in the Alabama Christian Athletic Association, losing their last two games after an incredible win streak that led them to the cusp of a state championship.

“They want more this year. They are geared up, and they know they can do is,” said Meadowview Christian head coach Tim Burton. “It’s just a matter of getting on that court and proving it.”

The Trojans definitely looked Tuesday like they’re going to be a tough out.

Meadowview jumped out to gigantic leads in all three sets, including a quick 15-3 lead in the opening game and 18-1 advantage in the final game.

Everything was clicking for Meadowview.

Tayler Roberts was aggressive at the net, while Mallory Freine kept tapping the ball wherever Cahawba defenders weren’t for easy points.

At one point, Christina Dabit served successfully for five straight points for the Trojans.

“I told them three years ago that they had talent for years to come, and they are still showing it,” Burton said.

Next, Meadowview will make the lengthy trip to Oxford High School with hopes of returning with a championship trophy.

The Trojans will play Friday against Providence If they win that game, they’ll play again Friday at 6 p.m. against the winner of Tuscaloosa and the Tabernacle/Marshall sub-state match winner.

If Meadowview wins its first three matches, it will play in the championship match Saturday at 2 p.m. The tournament is double-elimination, but an early loss would mean a long Friday for the Trojans.

Defending state champion New Life Christian, one of the only teams to defeat Meadowview the last two seasons, is on the other half of the bracket, meaning the Trojans wouldn’t face them until the winner’s bracket championship.
