Basketball Roundup: Southside, Meadowview, Morgan in action

Wilcox Central 67, Southside 57 (Boys)

In Southside’s season opener, the Panthers fell to Wilcox Central 67-57 Friday night. Charles Price scored 16 points and added 14 rebounds for the Panthers and Kentavius Page had 13 points. Isaiah Coleman also chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds for Southside.

Wilcox Central was led by Delvin Phillips, who scored 23 points, Zackary Woods who had 14 and Jemetris Pettway with 15 points.

Wilcox Central 60, Southside 32 (Girls)

Southside’s Lady Panthers lost its opening game of the season Friday night to Wilcox Central 60-32.

 

Meadowview Christian 54,  Tabernacle Christian 48 (Boys)

Clayton Thorton scored 23 points, with 13 of those coming at the free throw line, to lead Meadowview Christian past Tabernacle Christian 54-48.

Justin McGuire scored 12 points and Dakota Sanders added seven more for the Trojans (2-0).

 

Tabernacle Christian 41,  Meadowview Christian 32 (JV Boys)

The Meadowview Christian junior varsity team fell to Tabernacle 41-32. McGuire led the JV Trojans with 14 points.

Kaymon McGuire added 8 and Zack Duke scored five.

 

Meadowview Christian 48, Tabernacle Christian 42 (Girls)

Meadowview Christian’s Lady Trojans held on for a close 48-42 victory Friday over Tabernacle Christian.

The Lady Trojans (2-0) were led by Mallory Freine, who scored 23 points and Christina Dabit, who added 13 points of her own.  Taylor Roberts and Shelby Boswell scored five points each.

 

Morgan Academy 44, 

Jackson Academy 12 (Girls)

The Morgan Academy Lady Senators chased their first win all of last season, ending the year without a victory.

That won’t be the case this year.

The Lady Senators routed Jackson Academy 44-12 Thursday night behind 13 points from Kendall Veach and 19 more from Emily Sherrer.

Morgan led 24-6 at the half and coasted the rest of the way.

Kacee Jordan led the way for Jackson Academy with five points.
