The Keith Lady Bears were in complete control during Tuesday’s 75-24 area win at the Ellwood Christian Academy Lady Eagles on Tuesday.

Cecil Williams, head girls basketball coach of Keith (19-3, 5-0), said he was able to get some key experience for his bench players during Tuesday’s win.

“We gave all of them a little experience to get used to running the floor and just being relaxed with us having a lead. It gives them time to relax and understand what they have to do in the game,” Williams said. “It really helps us to build the bench and help us for the playoffs.”

Nate Brown, assistant basketball coach of Ellwood (1-13), said he’s looking to make adjustments in order for the Lady Eagles to be more aggressive on the court.

“I think they put a good effort up. We need to get more aggressive on defense, more aggressive on all parts of our game,” Brown said. “I haven’t been coaching all season, so this is my first game with them this year, and I’m going to change a few things around to make us play a little bit better defense and offense.”

The Lady Bears jumped out to a 19-4 lead in the first quarter and carried that momentum over into the second, as 7 points by Stephanie Carson and 5 points by Rodaisha Holman in the quarter helped lead to the Lady Bears to a 40-14 halftime lead.

The Lady Bears controlled the third quarter to take a 64-19 lead into the fourth.

Zykia Pettway led the Lady Bears with 28 points, while Harriet Winchester had 10 points, and Dasheena Thomas and LaTrece Starks each had 8 points for the Lady Bears.

Asia Bufford had 8 points for Ellwood, while Ebony Simpson had 6 points for the Lady Eagles.

Ellwood will take the floor again Thursday at Billingsley starting at 5 p.m., while Keith will travel to Autaugaville on Friday with games starting at 5:30 p.m.
