ORRVILLE — The Keith Lady Bears controlled the game from start to finish in their 54-29 win over the Dallas County Lady Hornets on Monday.

Cecil Williams, head girls basketball coach of Keith (18-3), said his team played well, shot well and got good play from the bench.

“We played very well. We started out a little slow the first quarter like we were a little rusty, but other than that we did pretty well picking it up in the second half,” Williams said. “We played pretty good as a team and everybody hit some good shots tonight also.”

Charles Thompson, head girls basketball coach of Dallas County (10-11, 5-2), said his team came out flat in Monday’s loss.

“My hat’s off to Keith. They’re a playoff-caliber team, but I don’t think we showed up to play tonight. They just kind of took control of the game in the first half and they never looked back,” Thompson said. “The first half, we just didn’t play with a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of motivation. We came out and did a better job in the second half, but it just wasn’t enough.”

The Lady Bears jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter before outscoring the Lady Hornets 21-4 in the second to go into halftime ahead 33-4.

The Lady Bears took a 52-14 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Hornets scored 15 points in the fourth, including 12 points from De’Undria Boggs.

Zykia Pettway led the Lady Bears with 14 points, while Lyteisha Phillips had 12 points and Rodaisha Holman had 9 points, including three 3-pointers.

Boggs led Dallas County with 16 points, while Camisha Moore had 6 points for the Lady Hornets.
