A Freedom Fest will be held to celebrate Juneteenth on June 17 at 1501 J.L Chestnut Boulevard.

Juneteenth is the latest national holiday, honoring the end of Slavery.

The theme for the event is “Freedom from murder,  drugs and violence,” because of the high violence in Selma. Currently, the Queen City has 11 homicides for the year. The event will be held from 3-6 p.m. in the Z-105.3 FM Radio station parking lot.

The Bridge Crossing Jubilee, North Star Beloved Community, ANS Blackbelt Human Resource Development and the Ancient African Museum are sponsoring the event.

“Throughout its history, the African American community has been united through struggles and triumphs,’’ the Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee said on Social Media.
