Darrius Ellis and Michael Muse are admired for their hard work and dedication at Dallas County High School.

Ellis and Muse each signed scholarships in their respective sports on Tuesday Family and friends attended the signing day ceremony.

Ellis, The Selma Times-Journal co-basketball player of the year, signed to play guard at Chattahoochee Valley Community College.

Muse signed to play defensive back at Miles College.

Ellis said he’s looking forward to extending his basketball career at CVCC.

“CVCC is where I best fit and where it feels comfortable going.” Ellis said.

The 5-foot-10 Ellis averaged 18 points, nine assists and six rebounds a game. He made third team All-State in Class 4A and the South squad on the AHSAA All-Star basketball game last summer.

Dallas County boys basketball coach Cliff Nix said he enjoyed watching Ellis develop into an All-state performer.

“When I started as a head coach, Dee was a freshman,” Nix said. “I watched him grow from boy to man in that time.”

CVCC head coach Ben Hicks said Ellis’ athleticism and high character impressed him.

“He fits with what we want to do at Chattahoochee Valley Community College,” Hicks said.

Muse is grateful for the chance to play college football, being 90 miles in Birmingham.

“I have been dreaming about this since I first started playing football,” Muse said. “All the work I put in and to see my dream come true its a blessing.”

Dallas County Athletic Director Heath LeVert praised Muse’s leadership skills.

“He was a vocal leader all year and improved greatly,” LeVert said. “I enjoyed watching him improve over the last two years.”
