Tae Spears and Jaylen Kennedy each scored 10 points as Southside beat Greensboro 42-32 in the Area 8, Class 3A tournament semifinals on Monday.

Christopher Thomas added eight points and seven assists for the Panthers, who will visit Hale County in the Area 8, 3A finals on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Panthers took advantage of a cold-shooting Raiders squad to build a commanding 22-8 lead in the second quarter, highlighted by a thunderous Spears slam dunk.

Greensboro closed within 32-27 late in the third quarter, but the Panthers pulled away in the game’s final eight minutes to reach the postseason.

Greensboro girls 40, Southside 38: Jakeria Robinson scored 14 points as the Lady Panthers were eliminated. Laketria Edwards scored nine points and Shamya Allison added eight for the Lady Panthers, who finished 10-6.
