Registration for the event is $10 for adults, $5 for students and $50 for teams.

The Grand Marshal will be Dallas County Probate Judge-elect Jimmy Nunn.

Proceeds will benefit area high schools and the Edmundite Missions.

Each year, the event accomplishes several program objectives of The Links, Inc., according to Dorothy Barnes, the President of The Links, Inc. Selma Chapter. “This family-oriented event promotes health and wellness, while raising funds to provide services for our local community, as well as, other national and international public service projects. Equally important, this event is designed to promote community collaboration through a fun physical activity.

“We want to play our part in helping to create health equity in Dallas County and surrounding areas,” said Barnes. “We feel that it is never too late to start focusing on your health and healthy living. It is also extremely important that we focus on the youth in order to create life-long healthy habits at a young age.”

In addition to the walk, there will also be health stations, with health literature, special guests, healthy snacks and free health screenings, provided by healthcare professionals.

“Last year around 200 walkers were in attendance,” said Barnes. “The Walk-a-Thon strives to promote community collaboration through a fun, worthwhile physical activity.  Each year this event is supported by various individuals, local churches, different youth groups, Greek organizations and other non-profit groups.  The Selma Links are looking forward to seeing everyone this Saturday at Memorial Stadium, as we walk to improve our health and wellness.”
