Margaret Ruth Henley Newsome, 93, of Selma, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb 27, 2018, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Autrey and the Rev. Steve Kopp officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ruth was born on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 1924, to the late Cornelius Augustus and Evie Lee Frith Henley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 62 years, Johnnie Newsome, Sr.; siblings, Ruby (Tobe) Chandler, Eurydice (Tom) Kelly, Lillian (Troy) Brannon, Gussie (Scott) Caldwell, Claude (Mildred) Henley and Curt Henley.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Harrell) Watts; son, Johnnie “Skeeter” (Carrie Ann) Newsome, Jr.; grandchildren, Billy (Terri) Watts, Peggy (Andy) Tipton, Fielding Watts, April (Bo) Bergloff, Stephen (Jennifer) Newsome and Amber (Jason) Tomlinson; 15 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Ruby Henley.
Active pallbearers will be Ruth’s grandsons.
