Bringing the Morgan Academy football team to the forefront will require a history lesson, new head coach Brian King said after Thursday night’s booster club meeting.

“There is a need for history in the football program and for the players who have gone here,” said King.

A Morgan Academy graduate, King takes over the varsity program this year after two years as junior high football director.

The Senators advanced to the first round of the playoffs this season after a 5-6 year.

“The former players and current supporters have to feel appreciated.”

Booster club members and supporters discussed funding options for supporting the program.

King said local resources need to be mined.

“We need to update the Web site, to show our athletic history as a school,” he said.

“We have to reach out to supporters better and ask them for things.

“We have unbelievable funding right here,” he said. “It’s just that the sources have been untapped.”

King said he remembers his passion for the game when he thinks about boosting his players.

“You have to care about what these kids do,” said King, who added that teaching the fundamentals will provide a solid base for the team.

“There’s been so much that’s needed for these kids, and we need to do our best to train them in teamwork, perseverance and leadership.”

At the meeting, outgoing Morgan Academy Booster Club president Tony Lee conducted the election for club officials during the upcoming school year.

They include David Johnston, president; Jay Wood, first vice president; Bart Adams, second vice president; Denice Clark, secretary; and Mark Mason, treasurer.
