Louise Vaughan Foxworth Russell (“Bootsie”), 89, departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, after a brief illness.

Bootsie was born on March 10, 1925 to Charles Edwin Foxworth, Sr. and Louise Vaughan Foxworth Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Edward Bracey Foxworth Sr., William Kent Bentley and Paul Turner Foxworth Sr.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, John Archibald Russell; her brother, Charles Edwin Foxworth, Jr. (Dorothy), Charlotte, NC; her children, John Archibald Russell, III of Aliceville, Paul Vaughan Russell, Sr. (Betty) of Selma; Ruth Russell Buster (Rusty) of Cullman, Robin Russell Duke (Bo) of Watkinsville, Ga.; grandchildren Callen Russell Parsley (Russ) of Maryville, Tenn., Catherine Russell Goodman (Wade) of Aliceville, John Archibald Russell, IV (Kelly) of Aliceville, Paul Vaughan Russell, Jr. (Peyton) of Birmingham, Benjamin Barron Russell of Denver, CO., Ann Russell Huskey (Whit) of Dothan, Ann Buster Payne (Brannon) of Dothan, William Russell Buster IV (Mary Lafitte) of Fairhope, John Burke Buster (fiancée Erica Lynott) of Atlanta, Ga., John Michael Metz (Molly) of Marietta, Ga.; 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bootsie attended the Selma Public Schools, graduating with honors from Selma High School in 1943 with her future husband, Johnny. They married Feb. 8, 1944, while Johnny served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After Johnny finished college at Auburn University in 1949, they returned to Selma where they raised their family.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, now Cornerstone of Selma, and was active in the Women of the Church, Westminster Sunday School Class and Clara Hutcheson Circle. She had an unwavering devotion to God and led by example.

She was loved by all.  Her nurturing skills for family, friends and those in need were legendary.

She was a member of Colonial Dames, the Selma Charity League, Pandora, the Epicurean Club, and the “Wednesday Lunch Bunch.” She participated in the Christian Outreach Alliance of Dallas County (“Food Pantry”) and Meals on Wheels.

The interment service will be private with grandsons serving as pallbearers under the direction of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church (formerly First Presbyterian Church of Selma) Sunday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Warren Room immediately following the service.
