Neal Avrett

Neal Avrett, age 90, of Selma, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014.

Mr. Avrett was born in Augusta, Ga. and graduated from Richmond Academy. He proudly served in the 9th Air Force (386th Bomb Group) during World War II completing 40 missions in England and France flying the B26. He returned at 21 to marry his fiancée, Wilma Pynes, from Shreveport, La. He moved to Selma in 1956 as the manager of Western Auto where he worked until the store closed. He then worked several years for Jones Tire Company.

He is preceded in death by his son: Neal E. Avrett Jr. of Ozark.

Mr. Avrett is survived by his wife of 69 years: Wilma Avrett; daughter, Ginger Avrett Jones (Jeff) of Southlake, Texas; grandchildren, Allyson Avrett Hartman (Tom), Nick Avrett (Lesa) of Ozark, Jennifer Avrett Boone of Ozark, Scott Jones (Kilie) of Norman, Okla. and Sarah Jones Garibaldi (Matthew) of San Francisco, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Chris Spraker of Prattville, Caitlin Boone and Jacob Boone of Ozark, Aubrey Snell of Ozark and Cooper Jones of Norman, Okla.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Kopp officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Pallbearers will be: Hubbard Maroney, Vernon Anderson, Jesse Sanchez, Jim Sims, Scott Jones, Chris Spraker and Nick Avrett.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Memorial United Methodist Church.
