Letter to the editor offers solution to prevent future crashes into brick wall

Dear editor,

Many of us are dismayed to see the results of the frequent crashes into the wall of Old Live Oak cemetery along Dallas Avenue. This continues to occur too frequently.

The solution is simple. Just install the metal guard rails that is used on roadways and bridges.  Examples are the ones recently installed on Cahaba Road and the overpass on Medical Center Parkway.

This type of barrier could be installed on the sidewalk, just behind the existing curb. There will still be ample room for pedestrian walking.

In the event that the color of galvanized guard rails is objectionable, then just paint it whatever color is desired. I am sure the Selma Historical Society would have suggestions.

The main thing is to save and protect one of Selma’s most honored treasures.
