Former Selma High girls’ basketball standout Rodericka Parker was named a scholar-athlete by the NAIA on Monday.
Parker, who has a 3.7 grade point average, averaged nine points and five assists a game for Tougaloo College.
“I feel good about Tougaloo because it’s a laid-back private HBCU,” Parker said. “It feels like home there, I’m always safe.”
A two-time Selma Times-Journal girls’ basketball player of the year, Parker said she excels as a student-athlete.
“Sometimes it can get tough being loaded with work and having practice sometimes twice a day, but it’s my everyday life. And I’ve gotten used to it,” Parker said.
