Part of the donation was used to create a Gallery Room, which highlights Selma businesses, homes, churches and the 1965 Selma to Montogomery march. The gift will also be used for repairs to the building.

Carter also visited Brown Chapel AME Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church, First Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Street, First Baptist Church and Church Street United Methodist Church.

“I thank the Vaughan-Smitherman Friends, Sheryl Smedley of the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Perkins, and host churches for making me feel right at home,” Carter said.
