The Dallas County Democrats reacted to the reported leak of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s inital draft on Roe V. Wade decision.

Alabama State Democrat Chairman Rep. Chris England called for Democrats in Washington to act and pass laws that protect abortion access for all Americans.

Synethia E. Pettaway, Chairperson of the Dallas County Democratic Party reacted and echoed England’s stance.

“We applaud Rep. England for his bold statements and we stand behind him every step of the way,” Pettaway said. “Out of all 50 states, Alabama currently ranks 42 in terms of adequate healthcare.

“Criminalizing abortions will force women to travel across state lines or resort to unsafe measures. This attack on women and their right to choose what is best for them is absolutely outrageous. We must take a stand against this injustice.”

Pettaway, the wife of Dallas County Circuit Court Judge Collins Pettaway Jr., encouraged local residents to continue the fight.

“Selma will forever be known as the place that changed the scope of history for voting rights,” Pettaway said. “As the chair of the Dallas County Democratic Party, I urge all of you to join us in this fight, which has to be fought at the ballot box.

“This is why your vote is important, now more than ever. The primary election is Tuesday, May 24. We’ve changed history before, so let us do it again.”
