A Dallas County High School graduate receives scholarship from the Dallas County Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
Aaliyah Simmons, who graduated from Dallas County in June, landed a scholarship from the Dallas County chapter of Gamma Alpha Alpha Zeta.
“I am sincerely honored to have been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Gamma Alpha Alpha Zeta Chapter (GAAZ) Scholarship. Thank you for the wonderful news and your generosity,” Simmons said.
Simmons is attending the University of Auburn-Montgomery and pursue a Nursing career.
For Simmons, she said Nursing is a profession that “comes from the heart!” Her interest in nursing is built on previous experiences in healthcare as part of the Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA). She hopes to help people in need of medical help by becoming an exceptional nurse.
The award was made by the GAAZ scholarship committee, Dr. Barbara Wilder, Chair of the Dallas County Zetas.
Dr. Constance Hendricks, Chapter President, said it’s an honor to award a scholarship each year.
“The Dallas County Zetas are excited to be able to award a scholarship to a graduate of our Dallas County School System,” Hendricks said. “Because of the support of our family and friends when we hosted our Popcorn fundraiser, we were able to provide Simmons with funds to assist her in her preparation to attend college.
“Because 60 percent of our membership are Registered Nurses, we are especially excited that she expressed a desire to become a registered nurse. The Dallas County Zetas will award another scholarship this Spring to a deserving graduate from our County Schools. We are focusing on schools within our service area- Dallas County.”
