The Valley Grande City Council passed three new items at its council meeting on Monday night.
The entire council was present: mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Kay Davidson, Sara Day, Jane Harris, Bruce Hughes, Robbie Rose and City Clerk Kim Harris.
The council approved that sewer rates in Valley Grande will increase from $25 to $35 starting July 1. The Council will send out letters in the next several weeks to notify residents of the change. The pay increase is due to costs repairing for the sewer, including the purchase of new tank.
The Council also approved to go with Tier 1 over Tier 2. Labbe presented the council at the last meeting with details of the State of Alabama Retirement system’s request for a resolution on converting employees from Tier 1 benefits to Tier 2 benefits. The deadline for the Resolution is May 8.
Resolution 2021-128 TAP Grant was approved by the council. Will Barrett of Civil Southeast spoke at the last council meeting about applying for the TAP Grant. The deadline to apply is May 28.
Day said residents were thrilled that the Walking Trail was open and they enjoyed the Easter Egg Hunt, which was postponed a week because of the weather. They praised Bubba Holley of Parks and Recreation for running a successful event.
“It was a great way to interact with the community,” Day said. “I heard a lot of ideas from residents. It was a nice get-together for the community.”
Holmes said that FEMA is done with pick-up and urged residents not to pile up trash because there’s no one to pick it up.
The next Valley Grande Council meeting will be held May 3 at 6 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
