On Tuesday, December 31, 2019, Ashley Gray Henry of Marion, passed away at the age of 52.
Gray was born on April 1, 1967 in Columbus, Georgia to Sam and Margaret Ellen Henry. He graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1984, received his Bachelor of Science in Communications at the University of Alabama in 1990 and in the Culinary Arts at Johnson and Wales in Charleston, South Carolina in 1999. His culinary career included restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina, Beaune, France, Dallas, Texas, Nashville, Tennessee and Birmingham,.
Gray’s passion for cooking, combining classical French with traditional Southern, was reflected in numerous accolades and awards. He was known for his quick wit, infectious humor and his kind and compassionate spirit. His love for the Blackbelt Region brought him home to his family and friends.
Gray was preceded in death by his father, Sam of Pigeon Forge. He is survived by his mother Margaret Ellen Webb, sister, Page and brother-in-law James Jackson, his three brothers, Robert, John, and Stanley Webb and sister-in-law Gerri and aunts, Kay Gill and Nancy Jo Henry, uncle, Jack Henry, cousins, nephews and niece.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at St. Wilfrid’s Episcopal Church in Marion at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please give to the Farm School at Camp McDowell in Nauvoo.
