Each year, The Links, Inc. hosts the family-oriented event in order to promote health and wellness, collaboration through a fun, physical activity and raise funds to provide services for both local and nationwide communities.

Selma Chapter of The Links, Inc. President Dorothy C. Barnes said she’s looking forward to this weekend’s event.

According to Barnes, the Walk-A-Thon is a way to combat the health disparities in the community, a cause near and dear to the Links.

As a participant in the Walk-A-Thon for 21 of its 24 years, Barnes’ favorite part of the event is seeing the many youths who attend the event.

“It’s really encouraging to see young people come out and take an interest in their health,” said Barnes.

Barnes encourages everyone who can attend Saturday’s Walk-A-Thon to do so, citing the event as a great way to learn about health and wellness and also meet new people.
